    Very few of these are one minute tasks! Therefore I feel the title was misleading.

    • @ArrowHillCottage
      @ArrowHillCottage 13 годин тому

      I’m sorry you feel that way. In my opinion, the physical work involved in these tasks should take very little time. The prep work may add a bit, and of course everyone does work at their own pace. However, the point of the video is that we tend to build up these chores in our minds thinking they will take longer than they actually do. I wonder if you timed yourself doing them….how long they would actually take? The important thing isn’t a strict time limit- it’s the habit of doing them routinely, making them easier and easier to do. ❤️

    • @Graceandres3
      @Graceandres3 13 годин тому

      @@ArrowHillCottage I guess I just took the one minute thing too literally. It is definitely true that in my mind I probably over exaggerate the time involved to complete many chores, so that point is very well taken. I can see the video was well produced and that there was good intention behind it.

    Hi, thank you for your helpful video! I would welcome advice, please (from you, or anyone)... how to dispose of old College A4 printed paper notes, handouts & slide presentations from when I was a student? The notes are not books that I can give to charity but the data they contain would still be useful for other students and seems a waste to destroy all that knowledge! Any ideas, please? Thanks

    • @ArrowHillCottage
      @ArrowHillCottage 13 годин тому

      For me, personally…I would toss them. Probably recycle if possible. The notes you took in class were your interpretation of the information. Someone else listening to the exact same presentation will likely glean different things. I do understand your hesitations - especially since hours and hours of work went into creating the notes (I get it! I was a front of the class, detailed note-taker myself!)…but unless you plan to go back and reference them, they likely don’t have a lot of use. ❤️

    6-16-24 3:30 pm😊 I do agree with all you have to say. We made a BIG move it's been 8 years now. We moved from Alaska to Kentucky mainly due to the cost of living is or was less here in Kentucky And of course the heat made the four seasons. In doing this move we had HUGH garage sales. And we still brought way way to much. We moved from a 2000 sq ft house to a 900 sq ft. We again had a hugh garage sale then have donated still another garage sale amount. We decided we were not going to have any more sales. Mainly because we are in our senior years. It's just too hard for us. 😢 I am right now going through our house again to minimize what we have. We don't use everything we have and if we do not use something it goes😊 if we don't wear something it goes also. Or we don't like the way it fits out it goes. It is so freeing to get rid of all that weight. I have a long way to go but I know how I will feel when I get done. It looks like I have shared enough for this time. Have a wonderful freeing day and enjoy what you do have. We all have so much! 😊❤ Jeannie

    Another wonderful video. Nice that you approach deeper kinds of topics in addition to the decluttering ones. You are right with your thoughts on comparison. In terms of gratitude, I think it also depends on what you grew up with. I, 55y, have grandparents who lived through WWII (in Germany) and also WWI as kids. They never owned a whole lot. My parents had more, but were always saving. I still grew up with a lot of appreciation of how much things cost--even water and power were saved. I think, nowadays, children grow up with so much stuff that everything seems normal and self-understood. How can we even teach them to know it is not, and that our western world is so privileged with its wealth, if they don´t know it any different.

      When I say “was the curtains” I’m not talking about hand washing them with soapy water in a bucket. Maybe I should have clarified. I basically meant to take them off of the curtain rod and throw them in the washing machine! Ha ha! The machine does all the work really! ❤️

    @xpsxps1339 3 дні тому

    Hi Angela. Let me start by saying I love your videos and you deserved my subscription for quality content, so subscribed🙂. Great video! Comparison is one of the natural ways we evaluate, and I'd say there's nothing wrong with that if we know our values and live by them. As I observe, I can say that many people may feel a lack of resources (financial and otherwise) due to their reluctance to change, adapt to new conditions, and absolute unwillingness to plan. Sigh... (Unfortunately, it is also true, that there are people in this country, who objectively lack resources.) However, as I see it, many who permanently feel they don't have enough would be happier if they just changed their behavior. Example. I have two friends who both have enough money but keep crying that they don't. However... The ways they both waste their money are literally mind-boggling and when I point it out they both reluctantly admit I'm right but it only lasts as long as we talk, and when we meet again it's the same old song... So, it definitely is not about "I don't have enough money and I need more." It's about something entirely else...

    • @ArrowHillCottage
      @ArrowHillCottage 3 дні тому

      Thank you! You make a really good point - behavior and spending habits has a lot to do with how quickly a person’s finite resources run out! ❤️

    • @ArrowHillCottage
      @ArrowHillCottage 3 дні тому

      Really? That surprises me! I suppose everyone works at a different pace - but all of these are very quick for me. Like I said - some of them are just one per minute ( like one window, etc). Ultimately though - this video was meant to point out the habits of doing things more than being able to strictly get the job done in one minute or less. Thanks for watching! ❤️

  • @rosannecoleman3684
    @rosannecoleman3684 3 дні тому

    These are indeed great 1 minute habits. Most of them are 1 minute. Some are not, mixing peroxide, baking soda and water and applying to the grout in the shower with a toothbrush is absolutely going to take more than 1 minute or 2 minutes. Cleaning out the fridge and wiping down the shelves (& your picture showed the shelves were emptied completely) does take far longer. I do agree that all these caring house tasks are not difficult and do bring us contentment and pride. Your caring spirit is appreciated.

    • @ArrowHillCottage
      @ArrowHillCottage 3 дні тому

      You are right. Some things will take longer than a minute. For the tile scrub- I just have a container that I keep the mixture in and then set a timer for 1 minute before getting in the shower to scrub. After a week or so of that the shower is sparkling! Thanks for watching! ❤️

    At least half of these things are definitely more than 1 minute chores! 👎

    • @ArrowHillCottage
      @ArrowHillCottage 4 дні тому

      Everyone works at a different speed - I maybe should have put a disclaimer at the end of the video explaining that even if these chores take longer than a minute for you- they really don’t take nearly as long as we tend to build them up in our heads. If a person just gets started and sets a timer to stop after a minute…I think that most would be surprised how far they got in that time, and choose to keep going to ‘finish the job’ if they hadn’t already. Overall though, the time it takes isn’t as important as keeping a consistent habit with the ‘little things’ ❤️

      I bet that helps things smell fresh! I personally am pretty sensitive to scents, so I wouldn’t be able to do that in my home - but I can see how it would add a nice cozy element! ❤️

    Hi Angela! I really agree with you... I feel pretty much comfortable with my life. I don't go on vacation very often, i don't buy much and i even try to cut off my expanses even more. I think that society became much more materialistic...

    Hi Angela, I agree with many of the comments below. I think we compare because it’s part of being human. Once we compare, what do we do with that attitude. Do we try to keep up with the Jones’s, do we think I’m content with what I have and don’t need more and do we have grace to know we are blessed with what we have. I also think age changes a person. I’m 72 and I’m content with what I have. When I was younger I was not. I’m not a minimalist but I have figured out how to buy what I need and not what I want. It’s taken me awhile to get there. Age also changes your priorities, now I’m more concerned with my husband and I being safe and comfortable in our home as we get older not as we would say buying stuff. You are a very insight young lady and are learning things won’t make you happy or content all the time. Keep up the good work. Bonnie

      I can agree that wisdom comes with age- most definitely! There are things I look back on and wonder what in the world I was thinking at the time. But, we can all live and learn, right? Thanks for watching! ❤️

    Well, even monkeys compare treats and get angry if the division isn't equal - there are studies on it! I agree with the philosophy of course, 100%, but it's an embedded part of us to compare. That's the struggle. I think the key is limiting exposure. Before we didn't have so much access to people who lived way above us. However, other studies show that you really only compare yourself to your close peers. So, to complicate my statement, it's more about how your peers live and how you stack up than looking at those way above or below you (in your own estimation).

    • @ArrowHillCottage
      @ArrowHillCottage 5 днів тому

      Very good points! The fact that we can more easily compare nowadays definitely contributes to stronger envy! We won’t be able to get away from comparing, in my opinion…so we just need to be aware of the risks of doing so. ❤️

      @@ArrowHillCottage Absolutely. Comparison is the thief of joy. And we never truly know another's life. The trade offs aren't always worth it. The wealthiest friend I've had had a life I'd never want.

    Comparison, kinda reminds me of the parable of the vineyard workers (Matthew 20: 1-16) I also think of the man with no shoes complaining to the man with no feet.
